Surface Preparation?
General: Clean and dry surface thoroughly, removing all mildew, dirt, dust, rust and grease. Previously Painted Surfaces: Scrape loose and peeling paint, sand, then prime. Wire brush chalking areas and clean with TSP (or equivalent) and water. Dull glossy surfaces with gloss remover or sandpaper. Countersink nails and apply a rust inhibitive metal primer on exposed nail heads. Bare Wood: Remove sap and clean knotty areas. Seal these areas by spot priming with Valspar Stain Blocking Interior Oil Primer. Wallboard, Tape Joints and Plaster: Sand smooth, remove dust with damp cloth or sponge, then prime. Masonry: Brush loose sand, dust and other material from the surface. Metal: May be used to prime weathered, non-rusted galvanized gutters and downspouts. New galvanized surfaces should be primed with a galvanized metal primer, or washed with a mild muriatic acid solution, or allowed to weather for 6 months before painting. All iron and steel surfaces should be primed with a rust inhibitive metal primer. Clean Mildew From The Surface: To remove mildew or suspected mildew, scrub house before painting with a commercial mildew remover or a solution of 1 part liquid chlorine bleach to 3 parts water. Rinse thoroughly. Avoid contact with skin or eyes.?
